Return of an old favorite

This quilt is just back from the Quilt Expo in Madison, WI. It was made for my Son's antique 3/4 bed a few years ago. I had a bunch of red, tan and black on black scraps that called out to be used somewhere or be donated..I managed to use all of them and only had to buy a backing and the border fabric..I wish I could say that about many of my newer quilts..I have more fabric than a quilter should be allowed! The quilt is quilted in the ditch around all the block components and is crosshatched in the black borders.

JAX pictures

This is our booth at the JAX Quiltfest. BBD Creations is known for their tall tables, black booth look. The colors pop against the black fabric backdrops. We are adding three quilt patterns to the line this fall and four new postcards. You can sorta see the new quilts..Bunnie Birthday and Iris. Look for the new patterns after Houston.

Back from Jacksonville

Just back from JAX where I was vending with BBD Creations. I have pix of the booth at the show..the joke was tall tables black booth if you needed to find us again. We had several compliments on our booth as well as the two new quilts coming out this fall. You can see them in the pix. IRIS and Bunnie Birthday. The show was good for BBD. If you are in the area next Fall you should check out the quilt show. Several high quality quilts and plenty of good vending. I know I put a dent in the budget while shopping!

Just a quick note

Will be bringing out the patterns at Houston. Hopefully will finish the sunflower lap quilt as well for Houston...in the meantime will enjoy the summer renaissance in FL..cool tonight here in WI..only 50 degrees and still cooling off!

Postcard 3

This is more of a pictorial postcard..lots of scraps..miniature scraps in this one..some thread painting to hold it all together. Again..this one will go to the Houston effort of FFAC to raise money for cancer research.

Postcard 2

Along the same lines as the first..it is on a multilayered patch background with simple stitching to hold it together. The fused flowers are stitched with detail lines. Will be mailing this one, too!

SHARP QUILT

This is a picture of the quilt( with Ellie and I) before it was handed off to its new owner today. The quilt generated a good bit of money for the SHARP program here in Milwaukee. Thanks to all who supported our efforts.

Update on Creative SHARP raffle quilt

Just back from a wonderful luncheon hosted by Creative SHARP. The "Guys and Galz" quilt I designed and quilted for them netted about $1,600.00 for the organization in a three hour sale. We had a lot of positive comments on the quilt. I have to admit I was floating on all the praise. Thank you to my friend, Ellie, who asked me to help her out on this project. It was fun and highly worthwhile . Creative SHARP uses art and literacy programs to provide a better learning environment in our schools here in town. So many of the art and reading programs have been axed due to budget downsizing; SHARP helps to maintain the art in schools!

Cat brooch for class

I am teaching beading embroidery at the Fabric Fusion shop in Brown Deer WI..this is a class sample using a simple cat button glued to TimTex and beaded..the holes in the button were a perfect place to put some fringe..like the fish jumping in the water!

Thanks to Von!

A big thank you to my friend Von who has been indulging me with beautiful hand dyed fabrics for the new Block of the month I am designing for BBD Creations. Hoping to have this pattern sample and patterns by Chicago next Spring. He has produced some wonderful pieces in truly saturated color that is hard to find. Thanks again Von!

Brooch is complete

Here is the completed brooch..it has a picot beaded edge. Was going to put some additional fringe but thought less was more. It has a bale and a pin back for versatility. It will be one of the brooch styles I teach this Fall at Fabric Fusions.

Marbles update

Marbles, my Alpha One Art Auction donation, found a great home! I saw it hanging on the wall at my father-in-law's! I guess art never falls far from the tree! They had said they were interested in bidding on it but I tried to get them to let me make another... oh well.

Latest project in the works

I finished the quilting and bindings on two small wall hangings this week for BBD. Relaxed on the holiday weekend by working on a beaded brooch for my upcoming class at the Fabric Fusion! This is a raku (ceramic) bead I picked up in Chicago from Tailisman Beads. I will cut the background away today and finish off the edges. I used goldstone heshi, pearl, metal and glass beads. I will take another scan of this when I am all done. Here's to finishing projects!

Detail of "It's all about me!"

On this image you can see the beading a bit better. More so her confident attitude. The hair is especially telling! Each wire was curled around a wooden dowel and capped off with a gemstone bead. There are additional beads that a re loose on the wire to give it more energy....as if an orange quilt would need any!

Not all quilts are big!

This piece was a judge's choice for the Quilting arts Magazine in 2005. I loved working on this little quilt during a move from Indiana to WI! I have it hanging in my office now..certainly makes as statement with the orange. Made from primarily cotton batiks, it is machine pieced and quilted with a tulle overlay, beaded with delica and garnet beads, couched metallic threads and wire hair. I titled it: It's all about me..a gardener, creative and assertive woman.

Long time gone

I finally am back to posting..I have tried to load new pix several times but couldn't most afternoons. Must have to get up with the early birds! I hope to continue posting a couple of times a week now that I am back on a regular status! I am getting ready to go to QuiltFest in Jacksonville, FL where I will be vending with BBD Creations. If you are in the area the weekend of September 21st please stop in. I will have two new quilts ready for introduction this Fall: Bunny Birthday, a cartoonish wall hanging of two bunnies and their sidekick penguin and an art quilt entitled Iris, a narrow, Asian inspired wall hanging. The patterns will be available at International Quilt Festival in Houston this Fall. If you get to the show please stop in our booth for BBD Creations!

Garden Morning

This is a strips and curves quilt I made last Spring..Bright and very cheerful. There are crystals adorning almost all the flowers. I am having my quilts professionally photographed and hope the pictures will be easier to see detail on from here out.
